After drwaddles' suggestion then Uncle Loaded's fucken good idea that we have some kind of image for the forums to allow adult fillum references for the Photography Forum, we retired to the drop pit to see if it could be done.

After careful consideration¹, it was discovered, after some high-level coding² that we can in fact have images as the link into the forums from the main index.

Some further meetings³ were held and it was decided that we should throw it open to the RAILBASTARDs to find suitable forums.

There are two requirements:

1) Image can be no more than 700Mb. Fuck knows what you'd do making it that big.
2) It mustn't look like total arse across all three board styles.


Oh, and not too wide.


Y'all know what to do.

Isn't an image as a link more trouble than it's worth?

As TLD said in the other thread, if people use different themes, it fucks it all up anyway. Even the header image size we have now can go wonky in another theme. (I use Nosebleed, the grey/white with Red links)

And, why do we need to have adult fillum references for train photography?

Most of RB is already off limits to look at while at work. Some of the photos posted by others (like the semaphores by 'notch and others + older stuff) would be of great interest to the blokes on the other side of my building (Signal Sparkies and other Infrastructure Grunts).
That's my thoughts on this anyway, I don't expect everyone to agree. I do often have need to use the Rail Forums for research for work.

As it is now it seems to work, if it isn't broken, why try and fix it?

It's a problem we've come up with before on RB.

There is a conflict between letting the lads swear and being able to read the forums at work. Unfortunately, the software is a little clunky, and I can't do both - I would love to have the profanity filter available to be switched on or off at a user level as that would solve the issue in one fell swoop, but it's only available at an administrator level, and that means it's going to be universal, one way or the other. It's also across the entire board, so I can't single out an individual forum.

If there is enough popular opinion here, I can always ban swearing in the photography forum, but that would not be foolproof as 'notch and I would need to carefully police it, and people would forget not to swear (I'd be one of them, most likely), so you'd still be taking a chance when going there at work.

Railbastard becoming known in the rail industry is a bit of a double-edged sword. It's for you blokes in many ways, and I'm happy for new industry people to come here and enjoy the site, but once it starts getting blacklisted by the suits, and peple get in shit over it, then that's another story.

No big deal to me. Can't say links to porn would be greatly attractive to me. Not that I don't like a spot of porn, but can't see that it needs to link in to RB. If it does I don't mind though. What's more, betcha I would follow the links out of curiosity and lust.

Now, back to the topic, and my reply....

Swearing and baad words are not an issue to me at work (as just demonstrated. The power did go off and they are Cuntz). Not for browsing the net at least.

Images are on the other hand a problem. Apparently we have this fucking 'beaut software at work that can make coffee as well as pick up on all this other shit they don't like (The coffee part has been disabled as they don't want us getting comfortable).

To have adult fillum references or images in a link to a Photography Phorum will stuff it up for me, and is it necessary? Most in our company do not have internet access, only those in the 'suits' section do. As it stands now, I can research images and text from the Rail Forums.

If I want porn, I know where to find it. Br cobraking put me onto a few good video sites!
