Also in my poking about, I found this ROA Timetable from 1988. The differences over 20 years are pretty stark.
(Note: no Copyright is claimed on the doc...at least that I could see!)

At least trains still go to most of these destinations, with the notable exception of Murwillumbah. Not sure about Qld.
I used to have a 1980 or so NSW country timetable - A4 book format. I can recall I coloured in all the lines I'd travelled on. Whatever happened to it I'll never know - a case of Mumcleaningupitis I'd reckon.
Would give quids to have one of those again!
