Heeeeeeey .....

I was at the Goulburn Roundhouse very recently. I've got pics of that pair of U's out in the yard. Now I'm hunting down the exact railcar numbers. You wouldn't have the info would you, Cobraking ?

From the SETS U Boat page:

Quote:
Additional U-set interurban cars were purchased by Society members subsequent to their sale by public auction on the 24th November 1998. While retained, they are currently not part of the Society's official collection. These include Motor cars CF 5006, CF 5010 and CF 5027, Second class trailer car TF 6006 and first class trailer car ETB 6038. These cars are generally complete with bogies and full underfloor equipment etc.. ETB 6038 has original lift-up windows, the remainder have Beclawat sliding windows. These cars are currently housed at Goulburn.

Some good photos there, too.

Hahaha not quite 409! By the way, would electrified 3000's still be able to maintain all the current equipment to run on non-sparked lines?

Nor do I. I think it said the classes were abolished in 1974, which would have been the first time I rode in a U boat. I do remember well the ghostly image of the word SECOND next to the door, and also the curiosity of the seat reservation numbers.

My first memory of boats would have been when I was about three, and dad would take me to "watch the trains" from the **ahem** convenient location of the front patio beer garden at the Croydon hotel, and I was already a little gunzel loving to travel into town on the red sets, and in amongst all the passing rail traffic outside the pub, I'd sometimes see this thing which had the same basic shape (to me) as one of "my trains" but was silver. It may as well have been a rocket ship. I thought it must be a very important train and was the complete tits.

I have memories similar to yours - I was a nipper around the age of the withdrawl of these and I was used to traveling on V-sets but occasionally one of these would turn up and I thought it was a special occasion or something... They were louder than the V-sets but I so didn't care - they were awesome.

The SETS site keeps saying that some cars are "currently in the process being recommissioned to return it to operation" - now that can't possibly be revenue service with SRA, can it?
