Dunno.
In the 90s, they still had that turning-to-your-left-you-give-way-to-oncoming-traffic-turning-to-their-right rule in Victoria. I'd flown to Melbourne, and was in the front seat of a friend's dad's car when we came to an intersection where this applied, and I must have made a nervous start or something, because my friend's dad explained the rule to me. But that wasn't the scary part - the scary part was that the year before, I'd DRIVEN to Melbourne. I'd never heard of this rule.
It's lucky I didn't cause an accident. All that was needed was an explanatory sign near the border.
And I have it on good authority that prior to this rule being abolished, driving in Albury-Wodonga REALLY sucked. _________________ The idiot who, in railway carriages,

One of these signs at Alice Springs airport on the way from the carpark just for all those international tourists we get. Get in a hire car here and they're stuck on the dash also.

Fucken oath it did. Same with any big border town. I knocked around Swan Hill for a bit back then and there used to be these Mexican ( ) standoffs at intersections:
"Nah, I'll wait for you."
"No way, I'll wait for YOU!"
"No, seriously, you go first"
"No, seriously, YOU go first"
"Fuckit, can't wait all day....."
CRASH!
Never happened to me, but fuck it came close! You couldn't even predict driver behaviour based on the colour of their plates. Fucken dumb New South Welsh cunts _________________ Sig? Ahh fuckit I'll think of one later. OK?

Right, I'm fucking revved up now.
The Grubment have never been serious about road safety Never. In my opinion they will never prove themselves to be so until civil traffic penalties become more about education and less about taxation; and until criminal penalties take into account the fact that a car is an offensive weapon, and sentence people in the same manner as they would were a firearm involved.
On the first point, I have had a license for 23 years(ish) and have never had any remedial training, despite the fact that I have had at least 10 penalty notices in that time, and despite the fact that there have been God knows how many rules changed in the interim. There's heaps of rules I have forgotten, and I reckon I am comparatively a half-decent driver, but then again don't we all. There are bound to be plenty of drivers out there who have gone even longer and forgotten more Let's face it half the fuckheads conveniently "forget" the no-overtaking-on-the-left rule, which as the driver of a big fuckoff steel trayed ute does at times offer me some innocent fun on the roads
There's also a certain element of selfish knobs who know they can afford the fines, and so just don't give a fuck.
If the Grubs were actually serious they would convert the fine system, and instead of consolidating the revenue they would make you do a half-day of day's remedial training (which your fine would fund). This would have two benefits. First, an increased level of driver education, and second a real deterrent. Time is precious to most people, and the threat of losing a day to remedial training would even make a yuppie think for a moment.
As for criminal penalties the system's a fucking joke. I only need to say Benalla. _________________ Sig? Ahh fuckit I'll think of one later. OK?

I remember driving somewhere in northern Europe on a dual carriageway and being surprised by the lack of traffic in the other direction. Next thing I know both lanes (in the other direction)are chock a block with traffic moving at about 30kph, and at the head is an English car reversing. _________________ Heineken? Fuck that shit! Some days you can do the right thing and still things go wrong:
...police say the sisters had climbed on to the road train's back trailer when it was pulled over in Ti Tree on Monday morning after earlier being refused a lift by the truck driver.
They rode in the trailer for about two hours, but after the truck passed through Tennant Creek the girls jumped off.
The stunned driver, 64, told police he saw what he thought was a blanket fly off his trailer.
From http://www.ntnews.com.au/article/2008/11/26/18301_ntnews.html
Sadly the younger of the two girls (aged 13) died later in Alice Springs Hospital while her 19 year old sister survived.
With our road toll at 71 and things like this happen, makes you wonder what can be done to stop this caper from happening again.

Driving down Station Street to Chelsea today. Sitting at the lights at Edithvale Road got one car infront of me turning right to go over the Train Crossing at Edithvale Road. Got a fucking Ventura Bus sitting right up my arse tooting at me to move once the lights changed put can't go anywhere because the car infront of me is waiting for the traffic comming the oppersite way I manged to go around him driving towards Chelsea then the Ventura Bus gets into the Bike Lane which is illegal and overtakes me. Fucking impatient cunt of a Bus Driver _________________ Comeng301M - The Gunzel that Smokes, Drinks and gets the shots!

Best one I have seen for an impatient bus driver who tooted a friend like that, was to keep the car staionary and turn off the ignition, lift up the bonnet, gently remove a cable from somewhere so that it did not make contact, could have been a spark plug lead and just sit there while the bus driver is trapped.
Oh you can grin all you like but just don't let him see it. Simply sit there till the RAA or whatever in your state turns up to fix your wheels. It really makes the bus drivers day! _________________ Do the letter's F.O. mean anything to you Sheriff!

Would have been interesting if there was bike in the bike lane. I could've slowed right down to the same speed as the bike and drove all the way to Chelsea at the same speed as the bike with the Bus behind me. Best part was the parrelle run with BL34 on the Long Island between Aspendale and Edithvale station. If I had the camera in the car I would have pulled up at Apendale Station and got a shot of it going thru Aspendale Station _________________ Comeng301M - The Gunzel that Smokes, Drinks and gets the shots!
