Today Filtertron and myself decided to check out the local action! No camel toes or G strings to be seen so we decided on train porn at the Ipswich Workshops Rail Museum.
The operational exhibits puts steamrail to shame in every respect and makes them look like the incompetent dolts and fuck fisted knob cheeses that they are! Rodney Dangerfield
Very nice setup with lots of interactive exhibits and two tours, one of the Live Blacksmiths shops and the other of the loco workshops to which the tour guide thought we were really fucking cool and said here you go boys have a lookie here and also gave us the keys to the Shay.
Stick that one up your arse!
Bigged commiserating Big Al!

Thanks Ed,

Have to get my lazy arse up to Ippy when I go home in January. Some nice stuff there. A number I remember running when I lived in Ippy 1965 to 1975, with time out for holidays in warmer and cooler climes (Viet Nam, USA and Vicfuckentoria).

'Spose I'd better add a couple of words about the Ippo museum...I am absofuckinglutely impressed with the joint.
It's got a Science Worksy touchy-feely type vibe to a lot of it - especially the "Jacob's Ladder" thingy which had me impressed and cackling evily at the thought of applying it to a few people's appendages...It's very clean too, with proper walkways and ramps to access certain exhibits.

The thing that impressed me the most were the tours of the blacksmith's shop (still in use by QR); the workshops where all the kettles, coaches and diseasels live - one of the kettles has even been fitted with LED ditch lights - fuck! Of course, being given the keys to the ex-Nambour Shay was a highlight, as 'Ed pointed out a few days back. Another highlight was riding the traverser as the first part the blacksmith shop tour.

I'll be going back next time I'm in 'Edsville for sure - I'd love to arrange to see the ex-Rosebank museum exhibits which are stored out the back of the joint. Seems a bit of a waste that they aren't on display.

Oh, before I forget. The archives are unbelievable. 2 huge warehouses properly arranged and stored - access is also possible for visitors. 'Notch would faint if he saw it I reckon! Shit-eating grin

Looks very well presented - nice and clean, well lit (natural lighting or fluros?) and plenty of space which means you can actually take photos without the light levels going all over the place (like in York).

IIRC QR put up a lot of the money for that?

Mostly natural light via the saw-toothed roof. There are a few display rooms which are lit by small kitchen lights (can't think of the proper name for 'em).

I reckon QR and the QLD gummint have forked out a few quid for this museum, and there's still a bucket-load more to spend - the ex-Redbank museum exhibits have yet to be tarted up and put on display.

Me brain aint working no good today Shit-eating grin but IIRC, most of the museum locos were returned to service when QR Heritage was formed. I'm 95% certain that the Garratt, A10, PB15, one of the Bety's, both C-17s and the AC16 were there.
