I took the train up to Moree for the hell of it late last year, and when I return a little less than 12 months have a look at what some low life cunt(s) have done. Angry Satan

I tell you, if I eve got my hands on these cunts, I would set THEM on fire!

Doesn't look too dissimilar from when I was up there, dasher. 'Twas found burnt out when I relieved a whetie there 24 September 2006 as well, though not to the extent in your photo.

The photo I've got shows only the astern side samaged, though the western side is all boarded up.

KR, the building is pretty much gutted. As much as it makes my blood boil to say it; I don't think they have much choice but to tear it down.

Dasher could that be the reason it burnt so well, somebody wanted it gone, but historically it could not be demolished or something. You would be amazed at how something like this gets done just to get rid of an old unused building.

You cannot demolish it because it is historic, so then there is a mysterious fire that no one knows how it started and the result is as you have seen, next thing it gets demolished, just like head office wanted! Not accusing, but it does happen a lot! Cool

Hmm ... I've seen that before back in Dunedin. About 15 or 20 years ago, the old gas works was scaled way back (if not completely closed), and the land sold off to be developed. There was a beautiful little building that was heritage protected on a prime corner that McDonalds was said to have purchased the corner lot. Well, as work was underway to clear their site, a McAccident happened with a piece of heavy machinary taking out a small chunk of the building, officially making it "structurally unsound" and needing to be demolished - how McConvenient.

To be honest I don't know how that level of damage made it structurally unsound, and why it couldn't be fixed - to the untrained eye the damage didn't look that bad from outside. The building was unfortunately demolished, but I am pleased to say that McDonalds gave up the site (voluntarily or under council pressure I don't know), although now it's just a car yard.

Sounds similar to the Bow Truss Wool Store except this building was destroyed by Cain and his vandal Guvvermint.

Here's a bullshit spin blurb I scrounged from the 'net.

FKP Property Group, in consultation with Heritage Victoria and other local stakeholders have developed an exhibition including historical images, signage and sculpture that will be on display throughout the public areas of the building.
The Bow Truss Wool Store was named for its revolutionary architecture and unique building techniques which only a few historical buildings share. The “Bow Truss” was an innovative engineering feat in which six concrete curved girders formed three “bridges” which held up the roof of the large Wool Store.
Designed in 1909 by Edward Giles Stone, construction commenced in 1910 and took two years to complete. There was concern that the building would not be completed by the 1911 Wool season and so labourers worked 8am to 10pm under portable electric light to complete the building in time. Although the building was added to the historic buildings register in 1984, the building was controversially demolished in 1990.

Cunts are everywhere!!! Angry Satan

PS I hate the word 'stakeholders' I'd love to drive a stake through every cunt that uses that word.

The only info I could find on the net was:

An 1870s brick governor house, which contained governors that controlled the pressure of gas in the city mains, was also destroyed, in controversial circumstances. It was damaged in 1991 during demolition of a nearby gasholder, and then levelled, despite public protests.

Here is a photo from http://www.southernheritage.org.nz/gasworksmuseum/photos.html - that cool little unoffensive brick building on the corner was the victim - the giant gas holder behind was the one that was being demolished at the time. The chunk taken out of the corner was about the size of one of the windows IIRC, hence why I think most the structure was fine.

I also just realised there is a blue Triumph in the forground - only ever saw a few that colour in Dunedin, one of which belonged to my parents, so there's a good chance that may be us being an area we frequently passed!
