See pp1 & 4, SMH, Thursday 30th October.
A TIDC contractor, responsible for the design of earth circuits for the power supplies at these two locations, and discredited by Railcorp, is blamed for faults that allegedly could have placed commuters in danger, has been exposed for his incompetence.
Seems uninsulated cables were buried between rails and substation. This could have led to earth leakage, and electrolytic action on nearby services, producing corrosion in, amongst other things, a high-pressure gas main.
This problem first arose in the 1890s, when Sydney tram lines were being electrified.
